First of all, let me congratulate you for putting in the time, effort and energy in improve your golf skills. Practicing putting at home in the backyard or even indoor will surely pay off very very quickly, let me tell you that. It’s also a great opportunity to get your kids interested in the game. Backyard putting is the perfect game for a nice family barbecue game on a summer evening.

Like you, most other golfers dream about owning their own putting green. But why just dream? It’s actually much easier than it seems at first. It’s very easy to design the plan for your own putting green and then putting it into action, one step at a time. It will give you the opportunity to shave a few strokes off your game by being able to practice regularly. Isn’t that worth the tiny amount of effort involved?

Of course, it is.

So without further ado, here are the three simple steps:

Step #1 – Analyzing the Site And Layout

You have to take all surroundings into consideration. Is there lots of traffic outside your backyard? Do you have to raise the fence? Things like that, that don’t seem obvious at first. Really give it some thought, though.

Step #2 – Cleaning Up

Get rid of poor soil, any rocks or lumps that would hinder you from flattening and levelling the backyard putting green.

Step #3 – Creating The Backyard Putting Green

Lay out good soil and rake it evenly across the whole target area. Maybe consider a good drainage. When you’re done you want the area to be perfectly even, without rocks, dirt or lumps found on it at all. Then contour the backyard putting green as you like.

Irrigation is an important matter and you might want to consult an expert or somebody who has some experience with backyard putting greens. At least make sure to water the grass very regularly and on schedule. Don’t underestimate how sensitive quality grass is.

Please remember that from now on you have to stick to two mowing cycles. Now, that isn’t as much of as hassle as it seems like, really. And remember, it’s worth the effort for sure!
